"Drag Down"

According to my description of this on deviantArt, I wasn't actually angsty when I wrote this one; rather, I'd "been meaning to write something nice and apocalyptic for a while". Humans in general are pretty lame.

We grew tired of the borders
That separated man from man
So we tore down the tollbooths
The customs offices
And the walls.
We dragged the borders down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the slums
And their gunshots and their screams
So we tore down the crack-houses
The stinking alleys
And the brothels.
We dragged the slums down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the cities
That spewed pollution on the air
So we tore down the factories
The office buildings
And the clubs.
We dragged the cities down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the airports
With their noise and stuffy smell
So we tore down the baggage claims
The landing strips
And gates.
We dragged the airports down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the highways
With their countless crawling cars
So we tore down the guardrails
The passing lanes
And the exits.
We dragged the highways down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the suburbs
And the prissy people with backyards
So we tore down the town halls
The libraries
And the train stations.
We dragged the suburbs down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the villages
And decided we were moving to the wild
So we tore down the volunteer fire departments
The general stores
And the graveyards.
We dragged the villages down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the forests
As they obscured our sight
So we tore down the deer paths
The underbrush
And the trees.
We dragged the forests down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the mountains
Because they were cold and treacherous
So we tore down the ravines
The rock-falls
And the crags.
We dragged the mountains down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the rocks
That lay strewn upon the ground
So we tore down the boulders
The pebbles
And the stones.
We dragged the rocks down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the grasses
That tickled our feet
So we tore down the meadows
The hayfields
And the heather.
We dragged the grasses down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the oceans
That were so hard to traverse
So we tore down the lagoons
The inland seas
And the bays.
We dragged the oceans down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of the stars
That made us feel so small
So we tore down the planets
The galaxies
And the meteors.
We dragged the stars down.
We dragged them all down.

We grew tired of ourselves
Living in such an empty world
So we tore down the children
The women
And the men.
We dragged ourselves down.
We dragged us all down.
