March 2006 Little trippy-romantic summer type of poem. Long one, for me. |

Mushroom moon, mushroom moon Clouds hide and then unveil Your soft pale gleam and silver sheen, Silver shining, mushroom moon. Luminescent, luminescent Light is falling like a feather To the ground without a sound, Luminescent, silent ground. Ethereal earth, ethereal earth Bejewled by dew and stars And wispy webs like shadow-ends, Ethereal earth at shadow’s end. Ferns and fungus, ferns and fungus Never have I seen you grow You only appear, gath’ring near, Ferns and fungus, only appear. Singing softly, singing softly, Reminding me of children’s ghosts Quiet verbs and magic herbs Softly singing quiet verbs. Glittering glow, glittering glow Of water, web and snaily slime Spiral shell, a ringing bell Glittering, glowing spiral shell. Does and dewdrops, does and dewdrops Silent both like twilight kin A liquid eye or grounded sigh, Does and dewdrops: liquid eyes. Firefly, oh firefly You are but a star on earth Hovering wink, unearthly link, Fireflies are unearthly winks. Stones or starlight, stones or starlight Both appear within the lake Puddle, maybe- ocean, baby, Stones and starlight- ocean, may be. Fickle feathers, fickle feathers, Float away above my head To stars or moon, fern or mushroom- Fickle feathers, mushroom moon. Rain and ripples, rain and ripples, Ghostly sweat of time gone by Tribal dance or wash the ants, Rain and ripples do a tribal dance. Finding flowers, finding flowers Quiescent in the necklace grass Little groups in mystic loops Finding flowers in mystic groups. Muttering meadow, muttering meadow The field whispers of its contents Ivy and crickets, all singing with it, Muttering meadow with ivy and crickets. Following footprints, following footprints All of this one summer night, Finding soon, ‘neath the Mushroom Moon, Follow your footprints to the Mushroom Moon. |
